no amplification is done in the head unit but it still has to send out a signal. 4V is most likely the output on the RCA outputs. Basically it allows for a cleaner design and sound since the amps will be responsible for making power which I'm sure can introduce noise in a head unit since it would have to have circuitry to amplify and dissipate the heat from the amps and amps that small aren't great with the THD and probably introduce noise all along the audio output. Dunno if that output is compatible with the bose system though and the bose adapters will still work.
